From ribbons on everything to her own atelier
As a child, Sientje was always crafting. She learned to sew by hand from her mother, and at the age of twelve she received a Bernina sewing machine from her grandmother. The rest she taught herself. “I mostly taught myself by doing it a lot.” She once sewed two skirts together, convinced she would end up with a pair of trousers. “I quickly found out that it didn’t quite work that way.”
A real Sientje
Her label was on there right from the start. “It’s the crowning glory of your work and it gave me a wonderful feeling straight away. A real Sientje!” Her logo is a flower, her signature. Nowadays the label is visible on her pieces, and customers always notice it. “Many say they love having a real ‘Sientje’.”

Sientje is clear. “If you really want it, that’s the staying power you need to start and keep going.” And on a random Wednesday morning, when she walks down the street and sees her shop, it hits her all over again. “Then I realise that I’m living my dream.”
