Creator in the Spotlight: Evi Timmermans

From quitting her full time job to building an online community where thousands of mothers find inspiration every day. Evi Timmermans shares the reality of motherhood, chaos included. In our Creator in the Spotlight series, we highlight people who share something meaningful with the world. And this time? The spotlight is on .@evitimmermans.ugc.

Cold coffee and half eaten sandwiches

When Evi quit her full time job to spend more time at home with her children, she started sharing useful tips and relatable moments on social media. The response was immediate. Before she knew it, she had built a community of mothers who were experiencing the same things.

That is exactly what makes her platform so relatable. “You share something and think: is it just me? And then you get dozens of messages from mothers saying: no, not at all, we have exactly the same thing!” Sometimes it is simply nice to know that other mothers are also walking around the house with cold coffee and a half eaten sandwich.

Behind the scenes: much more than just posting

What people see is a thirty second video. What they do not see is everything that happens beforehand. Coming up with an idea, filming, editing, filming again because a child suddenly runs through the frame. “It often looks very easy online, but behind the scenes it can be quite chaotic.”

And Evi combines all of this with taking care of her children. The hardest part? Taking herself seriously. “Sometimes it is quite difficult to say: I am working now, while you are literally at home and the laundry is staring at you.” She has had to learn how to plan and accept that not everything will be perfect or go according to plan.

Name stickers for children: a small thing, a big difference

At Evi’s home, drinking cups and lunch boxes are the biggest escape artists. “It is always that one favourite cup that you think will definitely come back, but somehow it is usually the one that gets lost.”

Everything that leaves the house gets a name sticker on it: drinking cups, lunch boxes, containers, shoes and things that go to daycare. Because real life with children is not exactly careful. Things go to school, through the dishwasher and sometimes straight into the sandbox. “You just want a sticker that stays on and does what it is supposed to do.”

How does she test whether a product is worth sharing? By actually using it the way she would at home. Not just making it look good for the camera once, but seeing whether it also works on a busy Monday morning. Fewer lost items means less hassle. And that is something no mother will say no to.
